This is an exciting and innovative time for us as New Chapter Advisory VPs. Not only are we expanding our borders, we are also seeking young people and students to become part of The Pap Corps family.
The first chapter we opened last winter was Valencia Reserve, located in Boynton Beach. Many of their members had belonged to other Pap Chapters, and so within three months they were organized and running smoothly. They participated in our walkathon and they are continuing to add new members to their Chapter.
The next chapter we opened was Vi at Lakeside, our FIRST Independent Living Residence Chapter. We were approached by one of the residents who belonged to another Chapter before she moved to Vi. She and another resident became co-Presidents and decided that when it comes to being productive, such as raising money for cancer research, age is definitely not a factor. We have been thrilled with the enthusiasm of the residents at Vi and hope to add more of this type of Chapter to The Pap Corps family.
The Greater Broward Chapter is one of our newest ventures. This is an exciting and challenging Chapter as it encompasses a very large geographic area which will bring diversity to our membership. The age range varies and many of their members are working women. A few of the members have had their teenage children join as well. The Greater Broward Chapter is part of our “expanding borders/out-of-the-box thinking” Chapter and we are following their progress very closely.
We have recently opened our first high school club, called West Boca High School Club of the Pap Corps. Ashley Rocque, whose grandmother is President of one of our Chapters, volunteered to open a Pap Chapter in her school. We met with the Principal last spring, learned what was needed to get this project started and we are very proud to say that the Club is now up and running. Ashley, along with approximately 35 students, and still growing, formed the Club, which is what it needs to be called in the high schools, created a board and went to work. Ashley has been interviewed on the radio and she and some of the other Club members will be selling cupcakes and T-shirts at our White Elephant event on October 30th. They will also be an integral part of our walkathon in the spring of 2012 as well as working at many other Pap sponsored events. West Boca High School Club of the Pap Corps is the prototype that will be followed by other high schools wanting to open a Pap Corps Club. This is a wonderful way for our young people to learn, and understand, the meaning of “giving back” to the community while earning community service credits for their college resumes. It is a win-win situation for the Pap Corps and for the students who become involved
