Matching Gifts

What is a Matching Gift Program?

Matching gifts, also known as matching funds, are charitable contributions an employer makes to a specific charity − in the same amount donated by one of its employees (current or retired) − thus doubling the contribution.

Matching gift programs are a wonderful way for employees to make their charitable dollars stretch farther, at no cost to themselves. The donations and matching gifts you make to any of The Pap Corps’ fundraising events are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowable under law.

How does a Matching Gift Program Work?

It's easy. Gift-matching procedures vary from company to company. Corporations have minimum and maximum amounts an employee or retiree must give in order for the employer to match it. As a 501 (c) charitable organization, The Pap Corps is eligible to receive Matching Gifts from any company that has such a program.

Take these steps to acquire a matching gift:

  1. Call the Human Resources or Charitable Giving/Grant Department and ask if your employer (past or present) has a matching gifts program.
  2. If the answer is yes, ask for a Matching Gifts Form (MGF).
  3. Complete the employee portion of the MGF and send it to your Pap Corps chapter Fundraising VP, with your check (or credit card receipt if you make your donation on The Pap Corps website).
  4. The Fundraising VP will send the MGF and a Matching Gift Tracking Slip to The Pap Corps Headquarters in Deerfield Beach.
  5. Headquarters certifies on the MGF, that The Pap Corps is qualified to receive the gift, meets the employer's guidelines and has received your donation.
  6. Headquarters then returns the completed form to your employer’s Human Resources or other appropriate department.
  7. Within three to six months, your employer verifies the eligibility of both you and The Pap Corps, and sends the matching fund check to The Pap Corps Headquarters.
  8. Headquarters notifies you and your chapter. You receive donor credit and a tax deduction for your donation; your employer gets a tax deduction for the Matching Gift.

Matching Gifts are a smart and cost-effective way to raise funds for The Pap Corps!
